Space Saving Tips For Your Back Door
I have found the best pet sand and dirt stopper! Do you have pets or messy humans using a congested backdoor? Check this out. Also, see how you can create extra space to store items you use every day. There’s no need to spend a lot of money on this. See storage tips for backdoor entryways that are overused and underregulated. If you’re one of those people who have pets and highly active humans in the house that don’t like to wipe their paws, you’re in luck. 🙂
Keeping the area spacious involves organization and space optimization.
There are three critical steps to keeping a small, high-traffic entranceway cleaner and less congested:
- Do what I talked about above. Find a really great pet absorbant mat! If you haven’t, I love this one.
- Create extra floor space with baskets. Have fun with this part! While the mats might be mostly “functional” (i.e. necessary but not pretty), the basket is both beautiful and functional. From an aesthetic standpoint, be thinking about contrast both in scale and texture, especially if you have a small space. From the practical standpoint, baskets are the best way to create extra space for your items and decorate at the same time.
- Also, use baskets to give people more room to store their shoes. This is kind of a lost cause with my people, but at least I do it. 😉 And how great is this slim basket!? It’s perfect for small spaces and great for a couple pairs of shoes. I also like the combination of a large basket and a small slim one, as they contrast both visually and functionally. The big basket is awesome because it can simultaneously store beach towels and doggie blankets in the bottom as well as adding a couple outdoor pillows. The pillows situation, in my opinion, tops off the look.
BONUS POINTS for Rug tape.
- This is totally up to you. I have a love-hate relationship with it, meaning I love it for my natural rugs that roll up. I have also tried all different kinds of rug pads, and they are always a huge source of aggravation for me. The tape’s advantage is it keeps everything in place and you don’t have to fiddle with the pad coming out on the sides. The main disadvantage is you have to remove and reapply when it’s time to clean. This brand has not damaged my floor.
Thanks for visiting us! Tell me if you have any tips for the paw foot traffic situation 😉

Your dog is adorable! I have three dogs and two kids at home, so we have a lot of stuff tracked in through the back door. I’ll have to try the doggie mat, it looks really absorbent. Shoes are another problem, and I love the baskets you chose.

I wouldn’t say your people are a lost cause. 😉 I’ll be more mindful about the baskets going forward. At least they’re now on my radar.

My back door is in my kitchen so it’s always a challenge to keep it neat and tidy. I love how you have added the basket and I really need to find one like that so the kids can throw their shoes in it, lol. I need a better rug too so I’ll check your pick out as well.

rug tape is genius. i always forget to use it, and then when I have it…life is good. And you just reminded me that i need to get another basket for spare toys that keep ending up in a pile by our door.
July 12, 2018 @ 11:23 pm
I’m really glad other people have mentioned toys. I don’t have kids and my dogs are older, so I forget about places to put toys. The big basket would obviously also work well for that.

So thank you!
