I’ve been pinning images for months. And I’ve just now realized my decorating crush has a name. Editing down to a neutral color palette and integrating woven natural fabrics and textiles gives my beach bedroom characteristics of Scandi Boho Style. What is this style exactly? I can already tell you it’s the best of both worlds for anyone that craves artistic expression with a love for natural neutral decor. {Love Pinterest.}

What is Scandinavian Bohemian?

Personally, I’m drawn to the design elements of Scandinavian style with a whimsical – eclectic – modern bohemian -sentimental attitude.

BOHO CHIC or SCANDI BOHO

I’m intrigued by the distinction between Boho Chic and Scandi Boho style. I originally thought I was boho, but a simple Google search changed my mind. Boho chic by itself features so many crazy colors and mismatched patterns that it makes my head spin. The artist in me appreciates the personal expression and unique vibe these spaces create. However, the ADD-driven-to-distraction girl inside me craves more order for my personal space.

What is Boho design?

The word “Bohemian” comes from the French word for “gypsy,” and it applies to those who live unconventional (usually artistic) lives — travelers, actors, writers. So its style incorporates those ideals, combining objects, colors, and patterns from many walks of life and many areas of the world. Boho style is for outside the box people- like me. It’s eclectic, fun, and artistic.

WHAT is Scandinavian Design?

What do you think of when you hear or read Scandinavian Design Hello, Ikea. 😉 I think light and bright minimalist interior decorating schemes anchored by neutral colors and very modern. Yet there’s actually a surprising history that stretches back a couple centuries.

Culturally speaking, the word “Scandinavian” pertains to as many as six distinct countries. Unlike centuries of warfare, conquest and geopolitical chess-playing, Home Decor unites these disparate communities under a common banner. It’s one forged by the bitter cold & sunlight scarce environments. And it’s one that fuses “beauty, simplicity and functionality.”

I suppose there is at least one overarching takeaway from studying the history of this type of design. Style is influenced by where you live in the world.
