Attic Bedroom Update: Beige is Back
Decorating Trend Alert: Beige has made a comeBACK. It seems like all we’ve seen for the past 5 years are grey kitchens with lots of brass. I went full speed into the world of all things grey. A few years later, I am completely over it. Hello, Beige I’m glad you’re back.
Today I’m excited to share our attic bedroom update, why I finally love it, and 8 ideas that transformed this space.
The Power of Paint {Shades of Beige}
We recently painted the bed, wallpaper, moldings, and even the bedside table hardware in our master bedroom. I love this room. Let me show you why.
8 things that transformed my Attic Bedroom
- Painted the wallpaper, molding and walls all the same color. This blanket of alabaster white paint allows you to see the unique shape of the ceiling and opens up the space. Before we painted the wallpaper it was a tan and gray woven grasscloth. Over the years it faded. Our trim was cream and the ceiling was a cool white. I found a faux painter to come in and paint the wallpaper so that the texture became the focal point. (If you live in Atlanta, Franchesca and her team are wonderful.)
- Painted the gold bed beige! The gold was driving me nuts. Our attic bedroom has so many lines already. When we added the gold canopy it just looked busy. Now that the beautiful bed frame is in the same color family as the walls, the space feels peaceful.
- Changed the light fixture. This tiered tapered chandelier is a game changer. It’s everything I love. For starters, it has no distracting hardware, and it’s all white. It literally looks great in so many differently styled rooms, from beachy to rustic to dressy…you name it.
- Painted the hardware on the bedside tables. These are great, but they had distracting shiny, gold hardware. So we painted the hardware to complement the bed.
- Our floors were refinished with a whitewash and white seal. They look amazing. The wood has a natural pattern almost like a large chevron.
- New Bedside lamps from Target. They fit perfectly, and the solid form doesn’t distract from all the lines in this room.
- A New Duvet Cover. This tasseled duvet covers my old gold and cream one perfectly.
- Life Lesson. Less is more. I removed many distracting pieces of furniture and art from this room. It’s now a favorite place.
Am I the only one that’s over the grey kitchen and shiny brass? Yes, my kitchen is still grey with some brass and yes I’m over it. We did a faux finish over our grey cabinets to tone them down and add a little beige 😉 I just took pictures today, so stay tuned. It’s coming soon…
P.S. Do you want to see what it looked like when last year? You’ll see why I’m slightly embarrassed to link this.
Thanks for visiting ya’ll!
