Polka Dots: Tips for the Petite Girl

There’s always some kind of trend with polka dots. And spring 2018 is no exception since Polka dots are everywhere. Depending on the look, they can also be worn at any time for a verity of occasions.

Polka Dots: Always In

I would describe polka dots an evergreen type of trend. At least as far back as the 50’s, we’ve seen them in some form or fashion…in fashion.

Audrey Hepburn & Marilyn Monroe were not only iconic figures for the screen. They, among many things, immortalized what we now know as the vintage or classic blue & white polka dot.

Polka Dots: the Current Trend

And now? There are all kinds of looks going on. Just looking at season trends in Vogue, we see just about everything.
We see different two-color combos. This can simply be a reversal of the light-on-dark background to a dark-on-light background. We also see color variation between dots on the same background.

Polka dots can also vary in size. They can be blended with other flowery-looking patterns. These many different schemes of the same family of a trend are applied to different cuts. And you can easily accessorize with them, be it scarves or shoes.

Personally, I always love jumpsuits because they’re so flattering and easy to style. This particular one is classic.  It would be perfect for a wedding party, a luncheon, a cocktail party and just about anything in between.

Now for the Tips…

So now we know the timeless polka dots are no longer one specific look of long ago movie stars. But the main point of my message today is this. While it’s typically assumed that polka dots are best for tall ladies, we shorties can totally pull it off.
The easiest way to do so is to follow these Polka dot tips for the petite girl:
  1. The shorter you are, the smaller you should go with the dots. If the dots are big and wide, there’s a chance it will make you look big and wide.
  2. Go head to toe with the dots, as you see with this jumpsuit. As a bonus, wear hidden platforms.
  3. ACCESSORIZE with polka dots. For example, wear a scarf—any size you want. You can also wear shoes.
