Chic and Cozy City Living

Hi! So I know its January but I wanted to share my living room update as well as some holiday decor. The living room is the space you see right when you walk into our house. It’s mostly our Yorkies’ playroom but I wanted to start using it more. I decided to go for a more fashion-inspired neutral decor with a cozy winter wonderland boho-chic vibe.

If I could, I would redecorate all. the. time.

This isn’t possible… SO thank goodness for the power of pillows blankets and rugs! 🙂

The space.

This space has been so many things, and like me, it keeps evolving. When we first got married, I wasn’t sure what I liked so I gravitated to a very traditional style mainly because it was familiar. Then I grew out of that and launched full speed ahead into modernism. Lots of modern lighting, whimsical metallics, and unique sculptures replaced the damask and colorful old-school textiles. Currently, I want to tone down the extremes to a more casual, cozy feel. The architecture and some of the furniture is still traditional but I am mixing in mid-century modern and space-age vibes while trying to calm the disco sparkle with relaxed, bohemian textiles. Less sparkle more snuggle 🙂

Here’s to the power of pillows, blankets, and rugs.

What I love about this room is the light and the traditional architecture. What I hate about this room is the color of the wood floors. I seriously HATE the orange-yellow stain that just gets more and more intense over time. However, we are planning on moving in a couple of years so everyone is telling me not to redo my floors. Which of course makes me want to do it all the more. Has anyone ever painted their floors before? Do you think that would hurt the resale value?

Anyways, my temporary solution is this large jute rug that I found on Amazon HERE. I then layered the animal hide that I already had on top of it. I love this jute rug so much I ordered it in 3 other sizes for my kitchen and even an extra one for my parents beach house.

Decorating the mantle.

When I saw this garland at Anthropologie I bought two. I’ve since taken down these white cone velvet trees but the fur ball garlands are being relocated. There are so many cable knit stockings on the market. I found these at Target. The size is smaller than most other ones and they have little white fur balls 🙂

Fairy lights and birch trees.

I love little white lights. Always have and always will. Thanks to Amazon, I found these birch trees at a great price here. (They look almost identical to the RH ones that are 5 times the price. These are on sale $55 for a 6′ tree.)

I also found several different kinds of battery operated fairy lights here and here.

Pillows and blankets.

As I mentioned earlier, I am beyond thrilled to cover up these ugly floors with this natural jute rug. I also love adding the bohemian floor pillows and blankets that makes me want to snuggle next to the fireplace and read (or scroll on my phone for more ways to redecorate…).

Opposite the fireplace are these 1960s style Charles Hollis Jones chairs (Waring. The price has gone way up since I bought mine. You can find them here)

In my space, these chairs need this fabric and fringe to feel cozy. (Pillows HERE.) When I ordered the chairs online I didn’t take into consideration that the cutout shape would fall flat on the wall, but by adding the pillows they really pop.

Thanks for visiting! I’m constantly rearranging everything in my house so I’ll be adding to this hopefully on a regular basis. I’d love to hear your wonderful ideas!

Love Jean

PS. If my room could be an outfit what would it be? I’m thinking a chic, neutral look with cream silk pants, a beige knit sweater and gold modern jewelry with a fur something.. a wrap perhaps. What do you see?
